Cuisine: South Indian
Although Sree Annapoorna Restaurant Coimbatore, also serves North Indian food, we did not try it. Considering our experience and that its one of the best South Indian restaurants in Coimbatore, I would definitely recommend sampling its South Indian menu. It has the whole variety going from Idlis, Uttapam, Roast (crispy dosa), rice varieties, wada et al. Bear in mind that Idlis, Upma and Wada (the snacky food) is not served during lunch time.

Location: There are 9 different locations this restaurant has. At 5 of these, it is present along with its sister restaurant Sree Gowrishankars where it is primarily a casual dining place. We went to the Peoples park one. At the other 4 places, it is present as Sree Annapoorna quick bites restaurant. It was walking distance from our hotel (Vivanta by Taj Surya, Coimbatore)

Our Order:
We were at Sree Annapoorna Restaurant Coimbatore for dinner and we ordered the following:

Idli dipped in Sambhar: Soft and melt in mouth idlis served dipped in delicious and flavourful sambhar.
Rawa Masala Roast (the crispy dosa is called roast in Tamil Nadu): served with sambhar and three chutneys: green – coriander and mint, white – coconut and red – red chilli and garlic

Idli wada plate: served with sambhar and the chutneys separately

Andhra Pesarattu: Pesarattu is a savoury pancake made with a mixed lentil (overnight soaked) batter. This was the first time I had it with stuffing of potatoes, peas and onions. It was served with sambhar and the same three chutneys. Extremely filling

Filter coffee: Annapoorna’s filter coffee has a huge fan following within and outside of Coimbatore and India. I’m not a coffee afficianado and I quite liked their filter coffee. I would love to stop by and have it again whenever I get a chance to be in Coimbatore next.
I highly recommend all the dishes that we ordered.

Service:
This was cherry on the cake: Service was Quick and with a smile. That is what makes this one of the best South Indian Restaurants in Coimbatore. There is at least one north India server in every restaurant who doubles up as a translator for both sides. Food is served on banana leaf at most of these places, very hygienic and eco friendly as usually used on a steel plate and not a plastic one.

Ambience:
IMG_1531

Its present at two levels with the upper level being the air conditioned one (Typical of Indian restaurants in tier 2/3 cities)
The ambience is of a typical casual dining family restaurants in India. Large and spacious, abuzz with family chatter, sounds of old and prehistoric fans in the background and clanking of dishes in the fore, waiters in food stained aprons swiftly running around serving 2 tables in one go and menus being swiftly moved from one table to the other.

Cost for 4 (including 2 kids): INR 500
