Martian Tent in Wadi Rum

Martian Tent in Wadi Rum

Our experience of staying in a Martian tent a.k.a Bubble Tent in Wadi Rum was absolutely fantastic. It is luxury in the lap of a desert and more than a millennium old rock formations. There are many different providers at different locations and different levels of luxury provided. Most of the providers for bubble tent in Wadi Rum also have regular tents available. You can pick from either option.
So if you’re wondering about where to stay in Wadi Rum, don’t think twice about this experience.

Reaching there
To enter Wadi Rum you will have to buy a permit from the Wadi Rum protected area reception. If you have bought the Jordan Pass then Wadi Rum entry permit is already included in that. This is also where you will park your car or the driver if you have hired one, will drop you and you will be picked up by the Wadi Rum Safari tour provider or a 4X4 driver and guide if you have hired one.

They will typically drop you at and pick you up from your tent stay directly. As the wadi rum safari tour providers usually know where the tents for each provider are, it shouldn’t be an issue at all. If you’re looking for a jeep driver and guide for the full day or half day tour of Wadi Rum including drop and pick up from your tent stay, please drop me a comment or mail and I’ll share with you details of the person who was our guide and driver in our entire Jordan trip. He had arranged for us a guide in Petra and a 4X4 driver and guide in Wadi Rum. Both of them were pretty good who knew all the gems worth exploring.
Zeina Desert Luxury Camp where we stayed was right at the sunset point and very close to the reception too. Our tour ended 20-50mtrs far from the camp and next morning also it was a very short drive back to our car.
Although this was one of the newer desert camps, the driver knew it. So how well known is the camp need not be a decision consideration for where to stay in Wadi Rum, though I highly recommend checking out the reviews and ratings.

Tents – cleanliness and comfort
We stayed in a bubble or Martian tent. Our tent was very clean, extremely clean bathrooms – luxurious considering it’s a desert stay. Naina and Parth absolutely loved the round structure with a see through part of the tent which serves as a window to look at the sunset or the sky. For them it was almost like a UFO tent. The beds were comfortable with clean linen and comforters and they had even fixed us an extra bed since we were 2 adults and 2 kids.
This will put to rest your worries about the sanitation, cleanliness etc when thinking of where to stay in Wadi Rum.
After a whole day of Wadi Rum safari tour, this is where you would want to just relax and gaze at the stars.

Amenities
Staying in a Martian tent was like staying in a hotel for us, in terms of all the luxury. At Zeina Desert Luxury Camps, all the tents had WiFi and the rooms had a little balcony sort of area with chairs where you can sit outside for stargazing if you want. There is a big spacious central hall for breakfast and dinner. There was a pretty good spread of fruits, tea, coffee, milk, cold mezze, salads, pita and other breads and lentil soup for vegetarians. Goes without saying there was a decent spread in main course of chicken/ meat etc.

Suitable with kids
If you’re traveling with kids, Wadi Rum is absolutely something you shouldn’t miss. And surely don’t think twice before booking a Martian tent. It is more expensive than the regular tent but this is one thing kids will surely be excited about and an experience they’ll remember with delight.

Leisure and Entertainment
Most of the tents arrange for some entertainment in the evening – bonfire, some traditional songs, stargazing with a telescope etc. Zeina had arranged the stargazing trip but at an additional price. Anyways we all were quite exhausted so we didn’t mind not having an evening entertainment session as the kids had a good night’s sleep after some stargazing from our tent.

How to make the most of your stay
Get yourselves one of these telescope equipment to make the most of your trip. In the absence of a telescope, get this free app – skyview. This app lets you see the constellations and other celestial bodies like planets and moon when you point your phone towards the sky. It is one of our kids’ favorites and they have even finished dinners just while scanning the skies for different constellations.

All in all, I highly recommend staying in a Martian Tent in Wadi Rum, whether Zeina or not. Recommend booking it 3-4 weeks in advance as that ways you’ll also get the equally amazing and less expensive bubble tents which tend to get booked quicker like Memories Aicha Luxury Camp.
