Pepper Mill, Dubai

Kala Khatta Chuski at Pepper Mill Dubai

Pepper Mill, Dubai one of the best Indian restaurants in Dubai, claims itself for bringing to life culinary art from Colonial India. In the process, they add some of their own magic to the dishes and what you get is lip-smacking food which is a sight for hungry eyes and bellies. Recommend it if you are in or around Dubai Mall or if you don’t want to have the hastle of parking, plan on visiting the Peppermill Dubai Festival City one if you’re looking for an Indian restaurant.

  • Cuisine : Cuisine is Indian through and through. There are some twists and its somewhere in between a Farzi Cafe and Mint Leaf with some theatrics, some fusion and some very authentic flavours. Like most of the Indian restaurants which are trying to set themselves apart from the others, Pepper Mill’s attempt is to combine fantastic flavours in their food with unusual combinations in the drinks.
While it doesn’t make to the top of the best Indian restaurants in Dubai, its a convenient and good enough option especially when visiting with kids or large families.
  • Location, Parking and Opening Hours: At the time of writing this post, Pepper Mill was at 2 locations – Dubai Mall and Peppermill Dubai Festival City. If you are visiting Dubai Mall, this restaurant is a great option. If, however, you just want to try the restaurant, I recommend going to their Festival City location, which was their original one anyways. Also, just parking and coming up to the restaurant can take upto 30minutes in Dubai Mall thus I wouldn’t recommending going there just for this restaurant. Parking is abundant in both places but Dubai Mall in weekends is a nightmare for parking. Make sure to make a reservation before going, especially if you are visiting in a big group as it is a really popular restaurant. Despite a reservation, you may have to wait for 15-20minutes so be prepared.
  • Our Order: We tried a whole host of drinks and dishes across appetizers, starters and mains. We would have loved to try out some of their options like curry road the dabbawala experience
    • Chaat platter
    • Karare Palak Chaat (Oh yes, I’m a North Indian and chaat runs in my blood so no matter where we go, we surely try out their chaat 😉
    • Tomato Shorba: It was a very tasty shorba with almost a shorba consistency along with other veggies thrown in (unlike a shorba) and something like a papdi put in as a crouton. It was tomato shorba’s take on Minestone soup
    • Nawabi Paneer Tikka: what set it apart was the pickle stuffing in it. Tender and Soft Paneer with good achari flavour inside
    • Mutter Paneer: It wasn’t like the regular matar paneer that’s made in our homes. It was a giant piece of paneer in rich tomato gravy topped with a paste of green peas lending a very subtle flavour to the dish
    • Soya chaap masala
    • Pindi Chana
    • Kala Khatta Chuski: Will bring back Mumbai memories. You may not recognise it when its served as it looks anything but a chuski
    • Lychee Anardana: A fantastic concoction worth trying
Its their food which makes them one of, if not the best Indian restaurants in Dubai.
  • Service:
    • Helpful and Smiling service. The food takes its own sweet time of course. If you end up going during their busy lunch hours, it may even take some time for the servers to get to you and listen to what you want. Having said that, once you have their attention, they will give their recommendations and suggestions if you seek and will ensure a great experience.
Overall experience at Peppermill Dubai Festival City is expected to be much more hassle free than the one at Dubai Mall.
  • Ambience
    • Its a busy and sort of casual fine dine abuzz with activity. This is not exactly a place to enjoy a romantic meal, more of a family place with flavours for all
  • Cost for 2
    • For something like what we ordered it would be in the range of AED 600.
